Tara Fela-Durotoye

The CEO of House of Tara was dressed simple but looked every inch the true model of womanhood.

She spoke of her journey in her field...from when she was in school to her first jobs as a makeup artist when there was no such profession around. She was able to break grounds and start out an empire based on her own style.

Her advice to young ladies was for them to get empowered. She also talked about her husband and how things were when she met him. Her point was ladies should be able to have the foresight and not just date someone because of where he presently is. She was realistic and practical and it was obvious that the audience picked up some tips.

She also addressed a misconception that many people have about people like her who are successful. She gave the examples of how recently she was refused a loan by a bank because her merchandise was not suitable collateral and how she lost a major staff because he suddenly felt uncomfortable working in a woman’s world. She made people realise that there are always challenges regardless of where anyone happened to be in life. That was food for thought.
